Choice Driver’s Education is a locally owned family business. The school opened in February of 1993. Since its inception, the school has been approved, and regulated, by designated state agencies. The regulations were abolished in 1995, in accordance with required “sunset laws”. For a period of five years there were no state regulations concerning regulating or approving Driver Education courses.
Choice Driver’s Education was instrumental in creating the Association of Colorado Driving Schools (ACDS), with 12 other driving schools within Colorado. The aim of ACDS was to insure that strong curriculum, ethics, and integrity would continue to be the goal of each school. We compiled guidelines and standards that we would continue to follow while being self-regulated. Any complaint of non-compliance of a member was addressed and corrected at monthly board meetings. Choice Drivers Education was an active participant and member of the Board. The ACDS was dissolved in 2000 when State legislation enacted new laws.
The State, in 2000, passed legislation that requires the Department of Revenue be responsible for regulating Drivers Education Courses. The ACDS was invited to meet with members of the Department of Motor Vehicles, to discuss what was necessary, to continue to provide quality Driver’s Education to the students of Colorado.
The Department of Revenue then established the Motor Vehicle Business Group (MVBG). They developed the rules and regulations that all Commercial Driving Schools, Drivers Education Course, Home-study/Internet courses must adhere to, to be “Approved and Regulated,” by the MVBG/Department of Revenue.
Choice Driver’s Education was notified by the MVBG that our application was approved. We were congratulated on the content and professional manner with which it was submitted. We received state licensing, have been approved, and regulated, by the MVBG, to offer our services as a Commercial Driving School. We are a Basic Operators Skills Test (BOST) organization for the state. The BOST approval allows us to administer all state testing. The written test, for the temporary instruction permit; and the on road driver’s license test, that is required, to obtain a drivers license. Our students will not be required to take any test after the completion of the course.
Choice Driver’s Education has been at its present location, in the Campus West Shopping Center, Fort Collins, Co. since 1995. We never offer floating classrooms. We believe, that by providing an established location, it strengthens the student’s ability to learn in an unchanging environment. At their convenience, parents may meet with us and discuss their student’s progress, in a clean, and friendly setting. This consistency demonstrates the intrinsic value that we are established, and will be available in the future.
Choice Driver’s Education is dedicated to every student. We accept a maximum of 20 students per classroom session. This allows us to control, and not jeopardize, the personal one to one approach. No student will be invisible during the classroom work
Choice drivers Education has been recognized by Colorado Operation Lifesaver, for our dedication to teach new drivers, proper understanding of the laws and procedures concerning highway rail grade crossing safety. We have been a past member of the Colorado Safety Association, and a member of Mountain States Better Business Bureau since 1994. (www.mountainstates.bbb.org)
The owner is the only person students and parents interact with during the course. He is a graduate of Truman State University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. He is a member of Truman State University Alumni Association, Colorado Chapter. He has completed 12 hours of post- graduate credits in driver’s education from Colorado Christian College (1993). He was registered as a DDC - FN in the National Safety Council’s Defensive Driving Course(s) Agency, allowing him to be a special programs instructor/trainer in both 4 and 8 hour defensive driving courses offered by the National Safety Council.
He has 27 years of professional driving experience coupled with 12 years of teaching experience. He had worked as a professional driver for a National Package Delivery Service. He left his position with the company, with numerous safety plaques and awards, after achieving an envious history, of 15 years of safe and accident free driving.

He is a dedicated and patient instructor. He understands all students have their own way of learning. He enjoys interacting with his students, and has never put one in a situation that he did not believe they were capable of handling. He does not teach with fear and intimidation. He chooses the concept that "choices result in consequences."
Choice Driver’s Education is currently using a 2003, Dodge Neon. The vehicle complies with state regulations. The automatic transmission vehicle is equipped with dual controls to ensure the safety of the student. This enhances the experience of learning vehicle control. All driving time is by appointment. Only one student, and the instructor, will be in the vehicle during the on-road driving instruction. This allows the instructor to help eliminate driving errors made by the student, without additional stress from peer pressure. Parents are welcome to join driving appointments as an observer.
Thank you for reading our history. We continue to strive not to be the biggest driver’s education program, but to provide excellent instruction, and curriculum, and be the best driver’s education program. Our greatest recognition is the numerous satisfied clients who have enrolled their second or third child into our program. They tell their friends why Choice Driver’s Education is the school they trust by choice not by chance. Looking forward to working with you.
